I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could. I also married a 4th generation Texan, 42 years ago. I support the University of Texas Longhorns, and I like the Texas A&M Aggies.
There is a lot to like about Texas. Houston has one of the top ranked Medical Centers in the country with Methodist Hospital, Saint Luke's Hospital ranked in the top 10 in the country in several areas. MD Anderson is the number 1 ranked hospital for cancer in the United States and most probably in the world.
There is no other state in the union where the population has such a level of pride in their state as does Texas. A gentleman that worked for me at one time said he had been here for 50 years and still wasn't considered as a native Texan. My wife just laughed. She has always maintained a high level of pity for Oklahomans, they got so close to Texas but just couldn't cross the Red River.
My daughter lives in a suburb of Boston, MA. When her daughter wasnearly due, she had her mother send her a jar of soil from our front yard. She then had that put under the birthing bed and thence Hayley was born over Texas soil!
As I write this, the University of Texas Longhorns are ranked #1 in football. Go Texas!
